The Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station was founded on 10th of June 1971 in the period of cholera epidemic in Ukraine when there was a necessity for an establishment-coordinator that would render both consultation-methodical, and the practical help to health authorities of Ukraine in fight against conventional diseases.

The station’s main objective is provision of consultation-methodical and practical help to establishments of health protection of Ukraine dealing with the territory sanitary protection from contamination and spread of extremely dangerous and quarantine infectious diseases

There are such functional parts as:

• The Centre of Indication of biological pathogenic agents (BPA)  Ministry of Health of Ukraine (observed territory - АR Crimea, Sevastopol, Zaporozhye, Kherson, Dnepropetrovsk regions) and The Center of identification of unclassified at the previous indication stages of bacterial BPA - Vibrio cholerae and other pathogenic vibrios, legionellas, leptospiras (The order  Ministry of Health of Ukraine from 21.03.03 № 127/27);
• The Reference-laboratory Ministry of Health of Ukraine on diagnostics and identification of Vibrio cholerae and other pathogenic vibrios (The order Ministry of Health of Ukraine from 07.04.04 № 185);
• The National collection of alive cultures of Vibrio cholerae and other pathogenic vibrios, which belong to the scientific objects of national patrimony, according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from 22.09.04 № 1241;
• The base laboratory on avian influenza diagnostics (order of Ministry of Health of Ukraine from 17.07.06 № 488).
