Scientific and practical activity
The main areas of scientific and practical activitiy of Ukrainian anti-plague station are studying of problems of microbiology and epidemiology of a cholera, detection and analysis of circulation of causative agents of feral nidal infections, workings out and creation of information-analytical system of monitoring for infections which have the international significance and constitute a menace to mankind, problems of counteraction to biological terrorism, etc.
Among the main scientific and practical achievements there are:
- For the first time in Crimea existence of the natural focus of a tularemia on Kerch peninsula (1978) is detected and proved;
- Phages of cholera vibrios of Î2, Î22, Î57 serogroups are received (1980);
- In rice-growing districts of Crimea the foci of a leptospirosis are detected (1980);
- For the first time in the world cholera vibrio of Î57 serogroup is described (1981);
- The scheme of laboratory diagnostics of halophilic vibrios and system of tests for identification of pathogenic microorganisms are developed (1983);
- The causative agents of yersiniosis in the nature and among people in Crimea (1983) are detected;
- Circulation of a virus of a hemorrhagic fever with a renal syndrome in Crimea (1986) is established;

- For the first time in the USSR some species of pathogenic vibrios - V. aesturianus, V. fluvialis, etc. are described (1986);
- The wide circulation of the causative agents of the Crimean-kongo hemorrhagic fever in Ukraine is detected (1987);
- One of the first in the USSR and Ukraine DNA-DNA probing is introduced (1989);
- Antibodies to the causative agents of a plague of black rats are detected on a transport-refrigerator ship «Yeysk bay» that there has arrived to sea port of Sevastopol for the first time in ports of the USSR and the CIS (1990);
- For the first time in Ukraine the system of the organisation of laboratory researches on a cholera is developed (1994) ;
- For the first time in Ukraine the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for diagnosis of causative agents of dangerous infections (a cholera, a plague, an anthrax, a legionellosis, a leptospirosis, a tularemia, an yersiniosis, a borreliosis, an avian influenza, etc.) is introduced (1992-1995);
- Wide circulation of the causative agent of Lyme disease in Crimea is detected (1996);
- For the first time in the world diagnostic preparations for identification of halophilic vibrios are developed together with the Rostov research anti-plague institute, Russia (1996);
- For the first time in the world the kit of phages for a phage-typing of halophilic vibrios is developed together with the Rostov research anti-plague institute, Russia (1996);
- The concept of computer support of epidemiological surveillance for infectious diseases is developed (1996);
- The information-analytical system of monitoring of the biological characteristics of the causative agent is developed and introduced (1997);
- The complex scheme of researches of pathogenic vibrios is developed together with the Rostov research anti-plague institute, Russia (1998);
- For the first time the geographical information system is introduced into an epidemiology and medicine (1998);
